About Chris
Chris Nicola was born and raised in Southern California. He grew up skateboarding, surfing, playing sports, fishing/hunting, and traveling with his family. He knew from his travels that he wanted out of the suburbs of SoCal – and at 18 he discovered his dream in South Lake Tahoe. In Tahoe, the first few years found Chris wakeboarding in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. Every now and then he’d spin cast a line into the surrounding waters, but when he discovered fly fishing – he found his passion. Chris loved fly fishing so much that he’d get up before sunrise to fish before work. As soon as he was off work he’d be back out fishing. He stopped buying season passes for snowboarding. All he wanted to do was fly fish. With encouragement from his fishing buddies and Guide friends – Chris soon enrolled in Guide School. After graduating from Guide School with “Tahoe Fly Fishing,” Chris ventured forth to share his love of fly fishing with everyone he could.
As a Guide, Chris enjoys helping people of all ages and from all walks of life experience some of the magic of fly fishing. He enjoys teaching new anglers about not only the fine art of the various casting methods, but also the entomology and hydrology of the sport. Chris has limitless patience; and has developed successful teaching methods. Chris is a safety-conscious guide, and passionate about providing his clients with a great experience, lasting memories, and some laughs along the way.
Chris loves fishing the Truckee River, Little Truckee River, East Walker River, Lower Sacramento River, Trinity River, Pyramid Lake, and the high Sierra Lakes around Lake Tahoe. Chris is now guiding Pyramid lake in the winter months for “Pyramid Fly Company”.
After two summers of guiding for “Epic Angling and Adventure” in Alaska, Chris is excited to be guiding here at home again. None of this would be possible without the love and support of his wife, Ashley
