November 25 & 26 - Trinty River
Jimmy and Gary. Two rad dudes booked for two days to get some "fake" steelhead at the start of the Thanksgiving week after the Bomb Cyclone storm. The storm had bumped the flows a lot so the boys couldn't have timed it any better as we were fishing a drop. Nice to have some fish finally moved around!
We fished in a very cold rain on Monday and Tuesday was BEAUTIFUL . It was the first sun I had seen in over a week. Much needed. Doom and gloom is great for steelheading but a little Cali sun can uplift the spirits a bit.
A lot of tangles and smaller fish to the net Monday with only one big dog to Jimmy's hand. She was PROPER. A big ole' fish well over 25", I would guess 27 or 28 inches but who cares anyways. Ha. A lot of people do. I wonder if I do but I don't feel like it matters. It was a big girl. Jimmy was so stoked and I was so happy for him as he deserved it. He had the steelhead buzz going after she was released and he is still buzzing today as I write this. So rad to see people who really appreciate the opportunity to battle one of these amazing fish. Congrats Jimmy! She was very slippery and fresh so she flopped off the side of the boat when we tried to capture her soul for the interwebs and this was the only shot we could get of her.
Celebration chug!
Gary was the hot stick on day 2 and got his first adult steelhead to the net right out of the gate. Gary is very new to fly fishing and watching him improve from one day to the next was so cool to see. Great work Gary! And yes, a bit further Gary.
The boys walked away smiling and happy. What a great couple of days on the water with these Bay Area Boyz. Hearing their stories about growing up in San Francisco is pretty rad. The conversations on the boat with great people are priceless. Catching the fish is just a bonus when you have great company and such a beautiful scenery.
Back at it this next week and excited to see if the fish are still willing to play. We were around a few boats for a weekday so I am expecting the weekend to be packed. All good. Everyone should enjoy this beautiful place.
My calendar is looking like it's getting full with just a few more open spots.
Dec 18, Jan 16, and a bunch of days in Feb.
Appreciate all of you and hope you are enjoying your holidays.
