November 13-18, 2024 - Trinity River

What a week! Just a little bit of rain and wow, the fishing was on fire. Brad showed up when the first good rain hit this fall season and couldn't have timed it any better. Thank you Brad for the support. He is one of my Quincy homies so I am stoked we finally got to get a rip on my home water. He fished great ! It was dumping on us and we didn't mind at all because those fish were on the eat!

Fish of all sizes to the net and smiles all around. He even let me get a cast and I got my first proper steelie of the season. That was fun.

What a day buddy. Amazing. And so glad Charlie my pup got to join us.

So then the Peninsula Fly Fishers group showed up for a double two day float. Special shot out to Chip Blundell for putting this together. If you're in the Peninsula area, consider hopping into the club. The guys were great!

We changed up the boats each day with Nathaniel Kyncy as my wingman on the other boat. He is a great guide so I was glad to have him with me for the float.

Here is Chris with his first steelie within 10 minutes of fishing! He proceeded to have a rad couple of days. I think we have a new steelheader out there.

And Nick. What a rad dude to have on the boat. Thanks for the jokes Nick. We were laughing all the way to the end. Like literally till the end. The fish below is his takeout fish on day 2. I was literally parking my boat at the takeout. "FISH ON!!" I couldn't believe it.

Another thanks to Nathaniel Kyncy for being such a great dude and a great guide. He makes the river a good place with his solid vibes and fishy attitude. Get some rest buddy and I'll see ya soon.

Epic fishing with these guys and stoked they'll go back to the next club meeting with a great story about the Trinity River! I LOVE BOBBERS!

Then, David, my good buddy and outstanding client showed up. You like how I introduce you to the internet David? He's a great guy and I am so grateful for his support and friendship. And holy shit, is he a good luck charm. He brought Jonathan, his little homie who is just starting his steelhead journey at 19 years young! Yeah, a kid! And BOOM. Right out the gate. A fish to remember.

And it kept going and going and going...

What a day he had for his first float down the Trinity.

Now let's talk David. Haha. Just kidding David. Well see what happened to David is proper "steelheading". Hooking them, then saying goodbye to them before they get to the net. And it happened a few times. I won't say publicly how many times but let's just say a few. HAHA! Love ya David. But he did get a sweet ass fish to the net! A couple of them actually!

I am loving this new lens on my Sony. Having a blast with it.

Simply put, these two had an amazing day on the water. Super stoked as the weather showed up again and we got rained on.

And then I finished the week off with a birthday float with Cody! Happy Birthday dude and congrats on all the rad fish you got to the net. Kurt also got his first proper adult and finished the day off with an even bigger one. Wow. What a week.

Now as I type this, the big "BOMB CYCLONE" is just off the NW Pacific Coast and it looks MEGA. And when it hits CA, we are going to get some rain. A LOT OF RAIN! They will take the weir out at Evans bar and hopefully move some fish around the system. This is the rain event we need for a good push of the winter fish down river and the fall fish that are sitting down in JC. December is looking to be a great month if the timing is right on your trip. Keep on eye on the flows and stay safe out there.

Also, they are expecting to do a pulse flow because the Clear Creek tunnel is being worked on so all the water that will have to come out of the lake will come out of Lewiston Dam. This means the river might come up HUGE and they also stated without notice...weird.

I have some days available and after this storm and it should be awesome! The tribs will be going and the fish down river will start pushing up. I haven't seen a big event like this in November in a minute. LIKE A MEGA STORM. Excited to see what the river does.
