It’s time to hit the lake! The Hex Hatch is coming but the fish are already on the grab. I’ve been trying to sell more trips to Almanor in Spring, but it’s been a bit tough. Now that we have the Boston Whaler, perhaps we might be fishing there more often.
The boat is dialed. I only share that because I got it dialed for you, my friends, my clients. My goal was to get a boat that was fun to fish out and good to fish out of. Specifically, I wanted spot lock. Do you know what that is? It’s where the trolling motor stays in one spot at the push of a button using GPS. I’ve been rocking anchor lines for the past 6 years and it’s worked but it was time to give my clients a better experience on the lake. And with that I have to say thank you to everyone who came out and fished the lake with me on my drift boat. Seriously. We got fish for sure and it works but as a guide, I knew I wanted something that was a little bit more dialed.
This was only possible because of Jimmy. Jimmy was the previous owner and gave me a screaming deal to make her part of the Taco fleet. Dream boat. I can’t thank you enough Jimbo. My goal is to take Jimmy fishing on her as much as possible so he and I can enjoy time on the water with the craft we both love. So I took him out and we found em’.

We call her “La Loba”. The Wolf. F*&king gorgeous. I have more plans for her and small improvements I can make but she is ready to rip.
Dee had hit me up about a month ago to book a trip for her birthday out on Almanor. She specifically said, “I want to catch a brown trout.” Of course, fishing is fishing, I can’t guarantee shit but I can point us in the right direction! I promise you that and if you’re down, we can have fun trying. I am honored she thought of me to be the guide to take her out to celebrate her birthday and I am stoked to see her again. It’s been too long. Dee is another great friend I’ve met through this Taco journey and I am honored to have her and Jef in my boat.
The day started at 8am and within 5 minutes, she was hooked up on her first brown trout. Not a bad fish either. The fish were on the eat and we had plenty of grabs. Long line bobber fishing was the recipe. I had tied up some flies the night before and they were working. Stoked. It was a recipe of…oh wait, I can’t say that here! We agreed that we had a grab every 15 minutes for the first 5 hours of the day! Which is pretty rad. Not bad! She ended up getting another big girl and I got to say, I love these brown trout. Such a privilege to be able to fish for these lake toads.
