Do I need fly fishing experience to book a trip?
Nope! We welcome all skill levels — from total beginners to seasoned anglers. Our guides are here to help you level up your cast, read the water, and get into fish, no matter where you’re starting from.
What’s included in a guided trip?
Each trip includes expert instruction, transportation on the water (boat or on foot, depending on the trip), all necessary gear if you don’t have your own (rods, reels, flies), and good vibes. We also provide snacks and drinks on most trips — and of course, plenty of fishy knowledge.
What should I bring?
Bring a valid California fishing license, appropriate clothing for the weather (layers are your friend), polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and lunch if it’s not included. If you have your own gear, feel free to bring it — otherwise, we’ve got you covered.
When is the best time to fish these rivers and lakes?
Each location has its season:
Lake Almanor: Late spring to early summer for the famous Hex Hatch.
Lake Davis: Prime for damsel and callibaetis hatches in late spring and fall.
Feather River: Fishable most of the year; fall is prime for walk-and-wade.
Trinity River: Best in fall and winter for steelhead.
Lower Sacramento River: Year-round drift boat action.
We’ll help you pick the best option for the time of year you’re planning to go.
How long are the trips?
Most trips are full-day or half-day adventures. Full-day trips typically last 7–8 hours, while half-day trips run around 4 hours. We’ll tailor it to your schedule and what the fish are doing.

How much do the trips cost?
Trip prices vary depending on location and length:
Half-day trips start at $400
Full-day trips start at $425–$500+
Check each specific tour listing on our Fly Fishing Tours page for full pricing details.
Where do I stay if I’m coming from out of town?
We’ll give you local tips! Whether you’re fishing near Chester, Westwood, Graeagle, Quincy, or Redding, there are cozy cabins, Airbnbs, and lakeside lodges nearby. Just ask — we’ve got recommendations dialed in.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes — every angler 16 and older needs a valid California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) fishing license. You can buy one online through the CDFW website.
Can kids or families come along?
Absolutely. We love getting families on the water. Some trips are better suited for kids than others, so let us know when booking and we’ll recommend the best option for your crew.
What if the weather is bad or the conditions aren’t great?
We always keep safety first. If the weather or water conditions are unsafe or unproductive, we’ll work with you to reschedule or refund your trip. Our goal is to get you on the water when it’s worth it.
